India Game Developer Conference 2026 Is Three Weeks Away: How a Small Studio Should Prepare

India Game Developer Conference returns to Chennai on October 28 and 29, 2026, which is just over three weeks away. It is billed as the country's oldest and largest game developer event, and this is its 18th edition. The organisers expect more than 10,000 attendees at the Chennai Trade Centre. For a small studio, a conference like this can be worth a lot or nothing at all, depending almost entirely on how you prepare.

What is on. According to the organisers, the two days include deep-dive sessions, workshops, an Indie Expo, IP Connect, BYOG (bring your own game), and the India Game Awards, with sessions, awards and networking. The speaker list for the 2025 edition included people from Electronic Arts, Google, Scopely and a range of Indian studios, and the 2026 programme should be checked on the official site as it fills in. Passes are listed from about 1,500 rupees up to 65,000 rupees depending on tier, so the cheapest way in is not the same as the most useful one.

Decide what you are there to get. Small teams usually want one of four things: a publisher or platform contact, a funding conversation, playtest feedback, or hiring. Pick one primary goal and one backup. A studio that walks the floor hoping something happens usually comes home with a bag of stickers and a sore back. A studio that books five specific conversations in advance usually comes home with one real lead.

Prepare a build, not a deck. A playable build on a mid-range Android phone is the best business card you can carry. Make sure it launches in under a few seconds, has a one-minute first session that shows your hook, and works without Wi-Fi, because convention hall networks are rarely kind. Keep a short one-page sheet with your retention numbers, your monetisation model and your next milestone. India is an ad-led market, so be ready to explain your rewarded video and mediation setup in one sentence.

Use the formats built for people like you. The Indie Expo and BYOG are designed for teams that cannot afford a large booth, and IP Connect is aimed at connecting game makers with story and character owners. Check the official schedule for the exact format of each, and look for the sessions on live ops, store policy and ad monetisation, because those change faster than any other part of our business.

Plan the boring parts early. Chennai in late October is a busy travel week, so book flights and stays now, not in the final fortnight. Decide who from the team goes; two people covering different sessions beats five people queueing for the same one. Set up a simple sheet for every contact you make, with a date for a follow-up message within 48 hours, because that is where most conference value is lost.

The honest takeaway: a game conference is a tool, and it only works if you point it at something. If you are a small Indian studio with a playable build and one clear goal, three weeks is enough time to turn IGDC from a day out into a pipeline.
